Though we have open and closed office hours, the owners live on the property and oversee 24/7 the welfare of the pets outside of  the normal office hours.  Bed checks are performed several times each evening (with treats) to ensure your pet is happy, safe and secure.


*   Sunday Evening Hours, please note we are only open on Sunday evening by prior arrangement. Please let us know in advance if you will be either checking in or checking out on a Sunday evening so we will have office staff available during that time period on a Sunday evening.  We are always front office staffed on Sunday mornings from 9am - Noon.

**  OPEN ON ALL HOLIDAY DAY DATES. Bokhara is open on ALL holiday days for arrivals & departures from 9:00am-12:00pm Only on the following holiday day - Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day for your convenience. We are open 7 days per week - 365 days per year!  After hours arrival & pick up can be arranged at an additional fee but not on the actual Holiday Date.  We do close at 3 PM on Good Friday, Christmas Eve Day and on New Years Eve Day.

Check In & Check Out 

Check-ins:  It doesn't matter what time you arrive for check-in as long as it is during our open times on that day

Our check-out time is 2:00pm with a grace period until 3:00pm Weekdays and Saturday. Any checkout after 3pm incur a Extended Stay fee of $8 up until the time of closing on that day (Expect Sunday).

On Sunday our open hours are 9:00am - Noon, and from 5:00pm-6:00pm Pick-up during our Sunday evening hours are for your convenience and the full day board is always charge for that day.  Any arrivals or departures between Noon & 5pm must be pre-approved and may incur the late arrival or checkout fees depending on the availability of staffing during those hours.

Dog's signed up for Doggie Day Camp or Doggie Swim Camp on their departure day are not charged a Extended Stay late fee if they stay past our 3:00pm check-out time.

* Holiday Rates are the day of the holiday and the day on each side of the holiday for a total of 3 days charged at the Holiday rateBetween December 22nd-January 2nd, and Spring Break Week the Holiday Rate is in effect for the entire week of that  break. The reason for the $1 increase over holiday and spring break periods is to help cover the additional staffing requirements.  First Time Visit & Senior Discounts are valid during the holiday periods - other discounts do not apply during holiday periods.


After or Before Hours Arrivals or Departs MUST be pre-authorized and firm.  If after hours times are pre-approved by Bokhara - a non-refundable deposit of one night is required to hold that reservation and the deposit must have been completed and on file at least 3-5 days prior to any pre-authorized early or late arrival in order for Bokhara to schedule their staffing times.  After hours arrivals are not confirmed unless the non-refundable deposit is on file. Early or Late Arrival/Departure fee is not charged per pet but is a flat fee for the special services.  Review the after hours fees below:

Early Arrival Fees: No early arrivals will be accepted before 7:45am.  Early arrivals between 7:45am and our normal opening times for that day are charge at a non-refundable $25. All after hours are by by pre-arrangement only.

Late Check Ins or Late Depart Fees
are charged starting at $25 between our posted closing times and 8pm for that day.  After 8pm until 10:00pm there is a $50 charge for opening for a late check-in or a late check-out. There are NO check-ins or check-outs after 10:00pm on any business day. 

Please speak with us directly for pre-approval and submit a one night non-refundable deposit to confirm your requested after hours service. All after hours are by pre-arrangement only confirmed a minimum of 3-5 days prior to any arrival/depart times.

Admissions:   We reserve the right to deny admittance to pets lacking proof of vaccinations, and/or pets displaying signs of untreated or potentially contagious conditions, parasites and/or aggressive behavior.

We reserve the right to charge handling fees for excessively difficult or aggressive pets requiring additional staff and\or additional time in order that we may deliver proper care. Upon admission for services, your signature of contract acknowledges your awareness and acceptance of our policies.

Minimum age for all services is 4 months of age with a minimum of two sets of vaccinations current.

Health - All pets arriving must be in good health with vaccination records current. Any pet with signs of pest infestations will be bathed at the owners expense. Grooming or bathing is recommended for all pets at departing date. Any pet requiring medical attention will be taken to the veterinarian. Charges will be at the owner's expense. Every effort will be taken to contact pet owner prior to any veterinary visits.

Required Vaccinations:  The essential vaccinations for your pet are as follows: 

DogsRabies, 1 or 3 year (puppies six months of age)
            DHLP, 1 or 3 years
            Canine Influenza is HIGHLY recommended but not required.
*Bordetella, every six months or Annually - see below:

* Bordetella must have been administered within the previous 6 months, and more than seven days from a boarding reservation during the time period from May 31st  - September 15th when the canine cough virus is most prevalent.

During the remaining months of the year we only require the vaccination to have been given annually.  If you are a regular Bokhara boarding client you may wish to schedule your annual vaccinations to be given the End of April or the 1st part of May in keeping with our summer Bordetella restrictions.  We recommend that the Bordetella be given in the NOSE DROP form for more protection against this virus.

You may ask "why is a six month Bordetella required if my vet says it's good for a year".  As the Traverse City area is a summer resort destination there are guests traveling with their pets to Traverse City from all over the country.  Bordetella (Kennel Cough) is highly contagious and a nasty virus for which the Bordetella vaccines tends to lose efficacy around six months after innoculation. Our requirement of within six months during the high humidity/hot weather months for this vaccination is an extra step we take to help protect your pet.

What is Bordetella?  Bordetella is a vaccination to help prevent a condition known as "canine cough". It is shown that this vaccination has little protection after six months, thus we require that it be administered within the six months prior to a board stay or a grooming visit.

It has also been a known fact that the vaccination can cause a break through and actually cause a mild form of canine cough so it is advisable that all Bordetella vaccinations be given a minimum of seven days prior to any boarding stay. Please note that Canine Cough is a virus family of over 200 strains and that all vaccinations on the market today only cover about 30 of the most common strains. Bordetella vaccinations do not guarantee any protection from this virus, but it does help for a milder case - if the strains encountered are of the most common variety. Bokhara Pet Resort takes care to make sure that all pets are vaccinated against canine cough, but we DO NOT take responsibility for any break through, or outbreaks in this large family of virus.     

For 1st Visit Guests we do want your pet's vaccination records to be faxed or mailed to us in advance (231) 264-6667, so we can verify that all of the vaccinations that we require are current and up to date well prior to your arrival date.

All vaccination records must be from a licensed veterinarian. Additionally, we require that you maintain a year-round treatment for ticks and fleas in order to protect our resort from any contamination and thus protect all of the pets. We recommend topical solutions such as Advantage and Frontline.  These products are available over the counter or from your veterinarian. We do not suggest collar prevention methods. Please talk to your veterinarian about your options and frequency of treatment.

Medication Administrations:  No charge for medications, vitamins, food supplements, heartworm meds, or chewable meds if they are readily eaten from the hand or can be mixed in with their food.  Extensive  medications may be charged according to the administration times and frequency - to be determined.  

Insulin Pets  Do to the constraints associated with the care of diabetic pets Bokhara does not accept those pets for boarding requiring insulin injections.

Geriatric Charges may be added if we deem necessary - Starting at $5 per day additional.

Sanitary Clean-Up Shampoo & Dry Baths:  Our policy is not to send home smelly pets, thus any dog at the Resort may need a shampoo and dry for a very nominal charge.  We use our discretion (nose) on dogs to determine if they should have a shampoo and dry before being picked up.  Owner will be charged for all shampoo and dry baths.

  Pick up and Delivery    Available and charged according to distances.  Call use for pricing.

Camper Activities Menu   Be sure and take a look at all of the extra Fun Activities we offer your pet while they are enjoying their vacation at the Resort. Our health & wellness activity programs are geared to the energy level of your pet.  Our activities are charged extra - per session, but do know that our accommodations are very large thus allowing a pet to get plenty of exercise within the patio enclosures.  Our activity programs are all optional  We also have a Doggie Day Camp / Swim Camp Program for parents with busy pets.



Special Holiday Arrivals & Check Outs:  Bokhara does offer a special check out period on all holidays between the hours
      of 9am - 12pm Only on the actual holiday date.  We are not inclined to accept arrivals or departures on the holiday dates outside
      of these hours.

  Why my dog may need a bath before coming home?    Boarded pets do not stay as clean as they do at home for several reasons. Dogs are very active at the Resort and although our staff is vigilant in scooping and cleaning, dogs may soil their feet and legs. Longer coated breeds will become more soiled than shorter coats but to ensure a happy and sweet smelling homecoming a bath & nails, or a shampoo & dry should be done before your pet departs.

Payment:  Payment in full is required at the time of checkout. We accept payment in the form of cash, check with valid  driver’s license, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and debit cards. We reserve the right to request a non-refundable deposit on all services. 

Reservation Modifications: If you need to make changes to the number of days you have reserved to avoid being charged for the days reserved a seven (7) days’ notice is required so we will have time to rebook the space that was reserved for your pet. The exceptions to this are Christmas & New Year’s  for changes for this major holiday period must be made by December 15th  to avoid  being charged for the days reserved.


Bedding: If you wish to bring his or her bedding please do not bring anything that can't be washed with bleach as all articles brought in with pets will be returned clean for we frequently wash bedding belonging to a pet guest. Please - No large beds unless they will fit into a standard washing machine.

Items From Home: Pets use articles brought in with them as toys and chewing play things, so please do not bring any item which you do not wish to be chewed.  We say NO to large foam or cedar filled pet beds which are very difficult for us to wash so we request that you leave them at home. Bokhara provides raised Kundura pet cots with comfy double fleece lambskin pads.

Items from home might include a couple of toys, a towels, a small blankets, etc. for these items will contain your household smells and make the pet feel more comfortable while away from home.  Please limit the number of items to 2 or 3 pieces. Label all items with your last name and the pets name.   Do not bring your pet’s favorite toys. We will take every care with your pet's possessions, but we will not be responsible for items lost or eaten. Keep in mind we do not guarantee return of these items - please only bring items you consider to be “disposable”.

Bowls:  We use stainless steel bowls that are washed and sanitized after each use so you do not need to bring bowls from home.

Pet Diets: Diets are not included in the price of the boarding rate and we do charge $1.00 per day if we are feeding our standard brands.  With the number of different dog & cat food manufacturers in the market today, and the sensitivity of most dogs, we feel your pet should not be switched from your diet to ours.

We strongly urge you to bring the food your pet is used to eating - measured by individual meals in zip lock baggies labeled with your name and your dog/cats name.  Please note we do not send home any remaining pet foods. 

Veterinary Information:  Please provide us with the name and phone of your primary vet.

to verify your pet has all the required vaccinations. 

Leash and Collar:  Make sure when you arrive at Bokhara Pet Resort, you bring you're pet into the office on a leash. 
      For safety we remove all choke chains collars and return them to you along with your leash.

Emergency Contact Numbers:  Every attempt will be made to provide the care necessary for your pet should an emergency occur. It is important that you leave a phone number where you can be reached or an emergency contact person so that communication between you and the veterinarian can take place in a timely manner. If there is an emergency, we contact your veterinarian first. If he or she is unavailable, we contact another veterinarian. Then we call you at the emergency number you provide. Please notify us at check in about any pertinent medical history or problems with your pet. 

If Someone Else Drops Off or Picks Up Your Pet For You:  If you have made arrangements for someone else to drop off or pick up your pet for boarding or grooming - please let us know who that authorized person is.  We do not accept or release pets from other than the owner unless prior arrangements have been made.
